Dived the Silfra. We have had trouble with GPRS
connections so log updates have been infrequent.
Silfra is one of the most amazing dive sites in
the world. It is a crack (or several) cracks in the continent plates between the
european and american continents. A melting water from a nearby glacier fills
the cracks and the water is completely pure and very cold. It also flows slowly
so any silt caused by divers will go away soon. Divers here say that the water
here is as clear as it gets, and we believe
them.
On the surface the Silfra is very
beautiful but does not look much like a great diving
site.
Under
the water is a completely different world with very strong and pure colors. In
July there is lots of life in Silfra which makes the shallow parts very
colorful. The water is pure giving very deep blue colors against the greenish
plants. Here are some frames captured from
DV-tape:
It
seems that we are going back to Silfra after our Keflavik / Reykjavik part for
more diving.
