Black day
Today we dived El Grillo in Seydisfjordur and had
some (small) hardships. Our Iceland trip is also about to end and we are in a
school / summer guest house waiting for Norröna to take us to the Faroen
islands.
El Grillo is 150m long WWII oil tanker sunk in
the front of Seydisfjordur. A local fisherman from Seydisfjordur took us to the
wreck which is only about 500 meters from the harbour. The visibility was quite
bad and the wreck is quite deep (25-45m) so we could not see much about it
during a single dive. However, we got some oil from the ship into our scuba gear
and also broke some of it, so we spent some time fixing and cleaning the gear
after the dive. It was also kind of funny to be greeted on the harbor by a
7-year old girl (our skipper's daughter we suppose) carrying a can of
iso-propanol and bag of rags for
us...Our
Iceland round is now basically over. I have never been in a such a strange and
in a rough way beautiful country. We did miss the West Fjords and many other
places so it is clear that two weeks is not enough for both diving and sight
seeing.Maybe the strangest thing was,
though, that it basically did not rain during our two weeks in Iceland. We have
had some showers but otherwise the weather has been just great if a bit
cool.We also met a few local people
(mostly connected to our diving sessions) and they were all very friendly and
nice to us.Next we are going to Faroen
Islands for a few days. Last time there was no GPRS available so this log will
probably not be updated for a while.
